It’s shaping up to be a busy weekend!

First, a 9 mile run tomorrow morning…  Then out for a smoothie with my friend Aya who I haven’t seen in ages!  Then time at the pool, because life is hard and all that.  Then I’m off to RiRa in Arlington, as one of my friends from volleyball who I haven’t seen in maybe 3 years is going to be in town!

We’re doing this:

Exhausting, I tell you…

Next week will be busy with a baby shower (for my friend who is moving to Korea in a week thanks to the State Department, ack!), Karl will be out of town for his friend’s wedding while he fulfills best man duties, I’m running my first 5k of the year and my parents are arriving in town!!!  (Which is why I’m not going to Karl’s friend’s wedding.)

I’m well overdue for another wedding post, but I feel that we hit a lull — there’s nothing new going on with planning.  My parents are bringing my invitations, so I’ll finally see them in person.  I’m dying to send them out, but know that it’s totally inappropriate to shoot them off 4 months before the wedding.  But the thing is, who ever doesn’t know if they’re coming now, will probably not be able to later (tickets get sold out quick, the hotel we had chosen is already sold out).  I promised myself I’ll hold off until August, 3 months before.  That will be tough…

    Hi Carla!
I just found your blog and I love it! I love reading about your races! I’m a new runner and am going to run my first 5K in September. I’m so nervous!! My goal is to run the whole thing without walking! LOL!! I read a lot of blogs of everyone running halfs and I’m like, “I could do that” but then when I go out for a run and am half dead at 2.5 mi. it’s like “who am I kidding??”. Then you look at half training schedules and it’s like, run 5 mi today, 6 the day after, then 3, then 7…….Uh….yeah. It’s like I’m stuck in a rut and can’t increase my mileage for some reason!! I too can’t seem to run any faster then a 11-12 min mile….and that’s huffing and puffing!! lol!!!! I don’t see how anyone can run and talk! If I’m gonna talk, I have to walk!!! Anyway, really glad I found your blog!!! Keep it up! I can’t wait to hear about your future races!!!!

    • Running and talking comes with time — at first I couldn’t do it, now it’s hard for me to shut up during a run!

And to increase your mileage you really just have to do it. Maybe sign up for something that would force you to do so? Like a 10k? Then follow a training plan, and you just have to suck it up. It’s hard (harder some days than others), but when you know you have no choice it’s amazing how much you end up getting done!

  2. How was the tubing? That sounds so fun.

I don’t recall – did you send out save the dates?

  3. Are you doing the CC Twilighter?
