Outdoor Run! Finally!

The weather in Manila has been keeping me away from outdoor runs.  It’s not just that here it rains here, it pours.  No, really.  Recently, we’ve had thunderstorms daily, and the one that started around 7pm last night, has yet to stop (it’s 11:30am here now).  And even when the rain take breaks, the sidewalks are already filled with water, deep puddles everywhere.

And if you’ve been reading here for a while, you know I’m a wimp when it comes to running in the rain!  (I really need to get over that one…  Specially since the few times I’ve run in the rain, it wasn’t that bad and I actually liked it!)

But it was time to get my eyebrows done again, and I couldn’t imagine walking over to Greenbelt carrying an umbrella and dodging puddles the whole way.  But for some reason running there seemed ok.  I’d be there in less than 10 minutes!

I asked Cath if she would join me, and after she almost bailed (she is a wimp with the rain too), we made our way out there and ran over to Greenbelt (she also got her brows threaded for the first time, and loves it!).

As luck would have it, the rain stopped by the time we started, and as I was huffing and puffing in the humidity, I actually hoped for some rain.

All in all, we didn’t run much – it came just short of two miles.  But we got back and headed straight to the gym, for my 4th workout of the New Rules of Lifting for Women (and Cath’s first workout with it).

Today, the thunderstorm might keep me indoors, but heck if I’m not using my treadmill, if only for a little bit.  Have I mentioned how it was a great decision to buy the thing?

You should try some rain runs. They totally rule. I did a rain run during Hurricane Isabel (it didn’t really hit us so it was really just rainy, not hurricany) and it was epic. You stop caring about the puddles, it’s like being a kid again and just sloshing through with glee. You’re soaked at the end but who cares, I am soaked from sweat during the summer anyways. No more wimping out.

    • I know! You’re right! It just makes it harder to go out when it looks miserable! And the puddles here are completely disgusting (Lily fell in one, and you could see the line where the water had hit, her fur was literally dark gray on the half that was submerged. EW.)

I had my eyebrows threaded once but did not like it. 😦
But yay for you for running in the rain! It can be fun if you don’t think about it too hard.
