Back from Coron!

And EXHAUSTED.  It’s not that the trip to Coron was bad, it wasn’t, but the resort was a HUGE disappointment for what we paid for…   And the bed and pillows were so uncomfortable, that even though we fell asleep super early every day (it rained a lot too), we had horrible sleep.

A review of Majika Resort to come soon…  If you’re paying what we paid (I have a feeling there’s a cheaper “pinoy price” that was half of what we got quoted) it’s totally not worth it…

But, we made the most of it!

We did some wreck diving…

And a coral reef dive!

We spotted new things on these dives like a two foot long crocodile fish

P1000777

A huge cuttlefish (it was almost as long as my arm – and the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen)

and two eagle rays (soooo pretty even though I got a really crappy picture to show for it!).

I even got my own remora, who followed me throughout the whole dive!  (Which also means there was some big fish nearby that we failed to see…  Boo!)

Of course, I’ll be posting more pictures soon!

We also did a bit of snorkeling at the coral gardens and saw lots of pretty fish…

Way too many sea urchins for my liking…

And a LOT of spectacular clams!

Aren’t they super-cool?

And thanks to the really shallow Lusong wreck, we were able to snorkel there as well (snorkeling was part of our package, diving was extra $$$).

I liked wreck diving more than I expected I would, but coral reefs are still my #1 love.  The visibility in Coron was the worst we’ve seen yet (just different bottom surface, nothing to do with the cleanliness of the water), so it made it hard to take in the whole wreck at once (since you could only see about 15-20ft at a time) and the diving pictures are not the best.

There was a lot of swimming and way too much time spent on boats.  More pictures to come!

And I hope I can get back to running soon, as I haven’t felt my hip hurting for about a week now.  This IS a running blog after all, right?

Trips! Trips! Trips!

One of the great things about living in Manila is that we can take pretty affordable trips around the area!  Since we only have two years to explore, we plan on making the most of it!

We already went to Bohol, Hong Kong and Macau

This weekend, we’re off on a short weekend trip to Batangas to do this for the first time:

(Classes start today!)

At the end of the month we have booked a trip to Cebu…

And since we have labor day weekend coming up, we also booked a trip to Coron, in the middle of nowhere, where we’ll eat the food that was fished that day and take boat trips around the islands and go wreck diving…

For my birthday a couple of weeks later, we agree that I don’t need anything now, and decided to have an experience instead…  So we’re off to Subic to this place, so I can do this…

We’re making a weekend out of it, which might include ziplining or another diving experience.

October will not be outdone!  We’re off to Korea to visit both Seoul (where Karl lived for 4 years during his Army days) and Busan!

For November, Veterans Day weekend in the US means another holiday for us, and thanks to cheap tickets ($185 total for round trip tickets for the TWO of us!) we’re off to a 2-night stay in Taipei, Taiwan!

No trips (yet!) scheduled for December, but I already mentioned that January we’ll be busy with my parents visit, where we’ll go to Thailand to see Bangkok and Chiang Mai, we’re off to Siem Reap in Cambodia, and we even added a last minute addition (as our plane was stopping there anyway):  Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam!

Have you traveled much around in Southeast Asia or the Philippines?  Any place else you believe we MUST see?

For future trips in the PI, we have Tagaytay, El Nido, Puerto Princesa, Boracay and Donsol on our list, just haven’t planned it yet!  We’re also hoping to hit Singapore at some point, and if we can find good flights, go over to Bali as well!
