Palau: Jellyfish Lake — The Video!

I already posted a bunch of pictures of the Jellyfish Lake in Palau, but nothing like a video to see how really graceful and peaceful it was.  As before, you can just click on the video below, but it’s best if you click on the HD tab and see it in its original quality.

By the way, if you’re too lazy to watch the whole thing, start watching at minute 3:00 — there will be a surprise appearance by Karl attempting his best “where the hell is Matt?” dance, and after that part you truly see howcrowded the lake was — before we though we were seeing a bunch of them, but it was nowhere close to it.

Palau: Jellyfish Lake!

So yep, I took a way too many pictures of the Jellyfish Lake, in Rock Islands, Palau.  Even after deleting about half of the pictures I took, I was still left with a ton (this is the theme for this trip, no?).

I think the Jellyfish Lake is the most famous sight of Palau.  The jellyfish over the years, isolated on this lake, evolved to the point that they have no stingers, so you can swim with them without any concern.

It was a lot of fun, and I could have stayed there for hours.  They’re mesmerizing to watch (and yes, I have videos, still haven’t worked on those yet!), and it’s all so peaceful.  They’re very very very fragile, so you have to swim slowly around them.

The pictures of the individual jellyfish came out amazing, if I may say so myself.  The sunlight shining into the lake takes all the credit.

We made it!

Just a little preview…

We’re going to Palau!

Seriously, how many people you know have been to Palau?  I can count them in one hand, and all of those I met here in Manila!

Before moving to Manila, Palau wasn’t even on my top places to visit.  To be honest, I never gave it one thought.

But since moving to Manila we started a new hobby, which puts Palau right on our radar:  DIVING!

Considered one of the best places in the world for diving, this little Pacific Island will be fun to explore!  Plus, it’s a direct flight from Manila, so why not take advantage of it?  Sure, it’s costing us a small fortune, but it’s truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

So next April, we’re staying in this beach…

And we will be doing 5 days of diving, hopefully seeing amazing sea life like dolphins, turtles, sharks and manta rays, but we also have a trip scheduled to the Jellyfish Lake!

Sounds horrifying?  But it isn’t!  Since the jellyfish at the lake have no predators,

the jellyfish have evolved and they don’t have stingers.  So you swim with thousands of jellyfish in a clear blue water lake and not have to worry about them hurting you!

The first time I ever heard of the Jellyfish Lake was from the “Where the Hell is Matt” videos (video #2 I think?).  Remember those?  And it was one of those places that looked totally cool, but I totally knew I’d never get there.  HA!  I thought wrong!

This nomad life is a lot of fun.
