Oi Carla, my name is Aysegul. I am Turkish and at the moment I am living with my family in Curitiba, Brazil. For the last three years we`ve been enjoying this beautiful country. Travelling a lot!!!! Before coming to Brazil we lived in Kiev, Ukraine and Lauzanna, Switzerland. Now there is a chance that we might move to Manila. I was checking out different sites in the internet about Manila and I`ve found your blog. I enjoyed reading it and when I figured out that you live in Manila I`ve decided to write you. I am not sure whether I will enjoy living there. How do YOU like it? Since you lived in other places in the world, I am sure you can give me a good response. Do you like Manila? The expat community is big? What about crime? I have 2 kids at the age of 10 and 5. They`ve been studying in international schools wherever we moved. I hope the quality of the schools are good in Manila. Actually I have a lot to ask but I do not want to bother you. If you can give me a quick response I will be exteremly happy. By the way you`ve just got a new follower of your blog. Beijos, Aysegul (Infelizmente ainda eu nao falo bem portuguese)
I love Manila! Things are affordable, people are super nice, restaurants are delicious, the weather never gets cold, and yes there’s a big expat community.
Crime is not a problem if you live in areas like Makati, Fort Bonifacio, or the villages (like Dasmarinas, Forbes, San Antonio…). I walk outside with no worries (of course, you always have to be careful of pickpockets, but that’s the same in any big city). There are good international schools in Manila, most of them are in the Fort. This is a really nice area, and travel here (around the Philippines and to other SE Asia countries) is very reasonable. Plus household help is affordable, for good quality people, so I’m totally spoiled. (And don’t even get me started on the great massages at the local spas!)
Thank you Carla for the info! It is a great comfort to hear good things about the place you might move in the future.
The massages are also important for me since I`ve got so used to them here in Brazil 🙂 Take care
